Unfortunately for all the fans in Europe waiting on this Nike Air Current “Dynamic Blue” color-way, news is that it has been officially cancelled. No word if the same applies to the US or Asia regions. One can only wonder and assume why or how something like this happens, but I think it was a poor call off. Perhaps there’s another ‘blue’ C/W coming up that justifies this knock out. For whatever the reasons, enjoy and savor the photo. If anything changes this post will be updated, but thats just being hopeful.

All you enthusiasts that can wear a sample size 9, you may as well keep an eye on eBAy for them. I’m sure these will end up there sooner or later. Or just maybe, they will fall into the hands of someone who actually wants to keep the pair.

The Nike Air Current is about to finally hit stores (At least in Europe).We’ve seen many photos pop up on the internet of the model, including a sample pair that may or may not go into production. One color-way on it’s way already dropped as a pre-order at Sivasdescalzo. That color-way is the ‘Black and Yellow’ make-up. If head there now you can secure your size from a 7 and up to a 12. This includes half sizes of course. Even better are the great ‘real life’ photographs that let you see the quality of the synthetic materials and the silhouette’s shape. Which by the way, looks identical to the Nike Air Flow. So, no waiting on line for these or camping out over night to beat the resellers. Secure your pair now.

Nike Air Current Black / Yellow 518161-010

This New Balance 574C “Quatro Azules” has been a color-way that’s been on my mind since the AM1 iD debuted again back in 2009. It was about combining a bunch of blue hues together. The two problems I kept running into were, the shoe looked like a STASH wannabe and others had done it already. After some thought, I decided to skip it and move on. The idea got lost, but not forgottem. It once again sparked my interest in 2011 when I was shown an image by someone…

The Idea:

My pal Emil from Sweden, aka Measel, who is the creator of the Puma group Forever Fresh showed me a picture of his NB574C. It was made up of three blues with some grey in it. That image sparked my interest again to try to build a color-way using 4 blues. The first thing that popped into my head was how could I combine them together in a unique way. Through trial and error, I came up with the idea of applying the colors from a ‘dark to light’ combination: Almost Navy, Chambray, Fresh Blue and Glacier Blue. Something I felt was very possible considering all the blue hues (5 total) on the New Balance 574 palette. After a few days and plenty of hours with the NB574C build, the design you see above was the outcome. It’s called “Quatro Azules” which translates to “Four Blues”; I chose to name it in spanish because it just sounded nicer.

The result as always is not disappointing. I’m satisfied by the outcome of the design and all the ones before it. It’s takes a lot of time and effort to try and bring out something different and unique every time. I think I accomplished this with “Quatro Azules”. We’ve seen many hybrids in the past by other brands. There have been simple ones and complex pairs, but in the end MOST have been debacles. On this preview you will see ASICS take a crack at it by combining a GTll with a Gel Lyte lll in the simplest of forms. Nothing too crazy and probably looking better than you think…

Above you can see the complete combination of an ASICS GTll and GLlll. All they did was combine the upper of the GTll with the midsole/outsole of their GLlll. A pretty basic approach, but ingenious at the same time. It’s the same application Hikmet from Solebox took with their Saucony 90 and what you’ll see on Hanon’s Master Control this year (check it out in Sneaker Freaker 24). I think it looks good overall and hope the final product sees the light of day. There is no solid word if it will come out or when it will drop. My guess? Maybe Fall/Winter 2012/Winter 2013. Also, the above was a render I built to show you what it will look like and it is based on an image that was shown to me. Maybe there will be more changes though.

There has been a certain hue name from New Balance that has been winning fans over. The ‘Denim Blue’ series or color-way first came out with fast selling NB998DB. That shoe inpeticular has been an instant sell out at a lot of places. The next two from the ‘Denim Blue’ pack have been released in the form of the 1300DB with nubuck, mesh and a heel brushed suede panel. The other is the much anticipated model, the 996DB in pigskin suede, accents of 3M reflective and mesh. Both of these models are available to purchase now at the New Balance Experience Store in NYC. Its that time of the month again for a new boogazine from Sneaker Freaker. Issue 24 is out and about and is packed with some real goodness for the sneaker lover in all of us. This issue is crammed with many stories and has tons of shoes revealed exclusively for the magazine. You’ll get to see the next Hanon project with Saucony, CNCPTS next New Balance 999, High and Lows ASICS Brick Mortar pack, BAIT’s collaboration on three ASICS, the next chapter in the Packer Saucony Grid 9000, the Puma and next Saucony launch from Solebox, etc. It even comes with a story about the complete history of Cross Training. All this and then some. Including an article by yours truly called “The New Crack Epidemic”…

I chose to write this story because of whats been happening out there in the world of sneakers. It’s about what people will and have done to acquire them. Knowing someone can get hurt, maimed or even killed over plastic, rubber and leather is still mind boggling to this day. Yes it’s nothing new really, but at these current time things have really gotten out of hand. After this story was finished, I was thinking about what responsibilities retailers and brands should take. During that time was when Nike decided to do the RSVP Twitter system that I’m a fan of. Finally, a brand takes charge and proceeds with the first steps to calm the madness down. But it doesn’t end here because we need big box retailers like Footlocker, Footaction, etc to also partake in some sort of solution to calm down the crowds.

It’s been 10 years in the making and it’s finally here. Sneaker Freaker is celebrating 10 years of their magazine by the same name. What better way than to collaborate with brands to bring out some products for their fans to enjoy and celebrate with. One of those is the Saucony x Sneaker Freaker Grid 9000 “Bushwacker”. Finally seeing some full images of the shoe made me very content and the “WANT” factor kicked in instantly…

The Sneaker Freaker ‘Bushwacker’ looks great here. In fact, I think it’s one of the better Saucony Grid 9000′s out there. We’ve seen a few come and go, but the total execution on this make-up feels accomplished. It’s not as busy as what you’ve seen with loads of colors, but that’s not a bad thing because there enough detail in here to keep the tough sneaker enthusiasts in some of you content. Distinctive details that stand out right away are the diamond mesh, elastic bungee cord lace system, and satin liner for the ankle and tongue area. Analyzing the shoe some more, you can see the mixture of two different types of suede being applied to the toe-cap and mud-guard panels on the side. Another nice accent is how the sand hue seems to bleed in and out of the mid-sole. Really nice touch there. For me, the shoe almost feels like some sort of hybrid runner/hiker ready to take on the dirt roads and grassy trails with all these applications.

There is one thing I’m personally not too crazy about and that’s the white out-sole. That’s not to say that it doesn’t look good, but that shit will get dirty quick. Especially on the point of it. Anyone that has experience with a white out-sole on shoes, knows what I’m talking about. Other than that, the shoe in this noir, sand, and mint  color-way succeeds on many levels. It may not be for everyone, but if your into it like me you’ll be happy in making this purchase when it drops at retailers in June/July 2012. One of those is End Clothing and they will lauch the Saucony x Sneaker Freaker Grid 9000 “Bushwacker” on July 1st. I’ll take two please.

It seems that Solebox can’t get enough of Saucony because they are diving right in again with some more Shadow 5000 make-ups. Coming off their ‘Three Brothers‘ success which broke down their online store for hours, Solebox teases us again with another collaboration with the Shadow 5000 model. This time around they’ve made three more shoes in colors that will brighten up our summers days even more. With only hints of grey, the silhouettes dawn solid pastel colors in magenta, green and orange. Very simple and to the point. No frills, just pop color for your feet. But before these release , we will get another pair of Saucony 5000′s that fans thought were photoshopped…

Back in October of 2011 Solebox gave us a preview of two other Saucony 5000 make-ups. One in a black, grey and pink color-way and the other in a black and pink color-way. Most fans thought they were photoshopped because the images were released a short while after the three brothers launch, but to many a surprise, they were actually real samples. In fact, they were up for your viewing pleasure at the Solebox shop in a glass cabinet. Since then, they have fallen off the radar up until now with an actual month release date. The Saucony x Solebox Shadow 5000 “Grey and Pink Devil” pack will release sometime during the month of June/July of this year. No exact day, but now you can make sure that what ever else you have your eyes on for that month (Yeezy 2), you may as well add this to the bank. Also, something that did change on these shoes is the upper. Once coming with an all suede body, it has now changed to a suede toe-box and leather starting from the side panel to the heel area. A better accent in my opinion. To get a better idea of this, grab the new issue of Sneaker Freaker 24 where you can catch a glimpse of the duo.

I think 2012 has some great general releases and collaborative projects coming out. One of those really good ones is from the 5 year old store in Rotterdam, WOEI. Mentioned in my “2012 Up and Coming“, WOEI decided to work with ASICS on the iconic model, the GLlll. Looking at the image above, you can feel a sense of warm tones being used for the make-up and looking at the deer portrait brings to mind some hiking or hunter idea. This is what I was thinking and was pretty accurate too. Just as I was about to post this, the latest Sneaker Freaker issue 24 arrived at my house and low and behold, there was an image of the shoe inside the mag….

When I saw the photo above of the shoe, I was quite taking by it. Never has there been a ASICS GLlll done in such a unique manner. There are so many details to look at, yet you can still make out the silhouette. Two of the most interesting elements are the stitching on the toe-box panel and the metal hiking eylets. Add the tan suede, dark brown leather, white suede accents, 2 tone round laces, a solid gum bottom, leather ankle liner and you have one of the most meticulous ASICS GLlll in years if not ever. Another interesting part of the shoe is how the heel panel has the WOEI name embossed on it. Something you may start to see more of on future ASICS collabs. There is also a short interview with the owner of WOEI by the same name in the SF24 issue.

2012 brings back the hand woven craftsmanship from Nike full throttle. The look is sort of a cult favorite, but Nike has decide to implement it in a lot of models in the coming months. One of those models is the Lunar Flow Woven above. I’ve had them for a few weeks now and have come to like them a lot with one gripe. Until I post my Fresh Out The Box review explaining that, check out the second image. Also, I will be doing a poster giveaway that has this shoe as the image. Stay tuned…
