Yesterday saw the release of the Nike Free Run 2 iD on Nike iD.  The new silhouette that derives from an eight year study on bare foot running, is much of what we all love, but with a few new additions to the model. This includes the new iteration of the Free outsole, new mesh and some 3M throughout the shoe. So what did Nike iD give you to make your Free Run different than what is hitting retail shelves? Well, what about the option to pick the popular and lightest free out-sole out there. The Free Out-sole 3.0…

The Nike Free Run 2 iD allows you to choose from 12 different colors on the current palette; Total Orange, Challenge Red, Cherry, Court Purple, Binary Blue, Treasure Blue, Bright Turquoise, Electric Green, Volt, White, Cool Grey and Black. Material options come in the form of a matte synthetic nubuck or 3M reflective for the main overlay, swoosh accent and side panel accent. Something to note is that you can not mix materials. For instance, you can’t have a matte overlay and reflective side panel accent (Wouldn’t we all want it to be a perfect world). The last option is the ability to choose from the current Free Out-sole or from the Classic 3.0 Out-sole and it also allows you to color them up in 4 different colors. My recommendation, choose the 3.0 sole if you want the shoe to weigh like a small stack of napkins and want it to feel like you’re running comfortably barefoot. ;)

Head over to Nike iD and design your pair now, or better yet, if you’re in NYC and/or near a Nike iD Studio, head in to see the samples and swatches. It’ll definitely give you an upper hand in designing what you truly want. You’ll even have a Nike iD specialist there to help you out too.

Stay tuned for the post that will have the swatches next..

    Sup Angel!

Again, this another great and informative iD update! I just have a concern regarding the reflective material. I know the first pair had used it as its overlay, and I’m wondering if you have pics with flash illustrating its reflective property.

    • Whattup ILLY?! Actually, when I go back this weekend I’ll take a shot with flash. I had to rush it because I got there near closing time and all that was on my mind was getting the captures.

safe man. dont want to sound demanding haha just you said you would put them up after the swatches, i was just hoping you hadnt forgotten. look forward to seeing them!

Awesome! I’m on the fence with using it. I hope it looks dope without compromising its true color with the reflective effect.

I was able to see some in person the other day, and I was surprised that the samples do not completely match the builder renderings. The midsole rim on the builder wraps completely around the whole shoe. However, on the samples, they discontinue towards the toe section. That section is basically the same color as the midsole. Could you get confirmation of how the final products will be regarding this issue?

    • Illy, I would never go by the renderings on the iD builder because they are not always 100% accurate. These are the samples that came from China, so I would go by what you saw and these images. I thought they would make different samples than what they ship you. That’s false advertisement and also called Bait & Switch which is not good business. I’ll ask though.

illy it looks like the only ones where the mid sole rim goes all the way around is the purple and orange one because it has the 3.0 sole.

Hey, was just wondering if these shoes are appropiate for walking long distances as well? Most shoes I’ve had gave me blisters, but these seem just too popular to not try out. My main concern is that the 3.0 sole looks rather thin at the front.

    • I wouldn’t get the 3.0 sole unless you will use them strictly for running, You can walk in them but they are better for power walking or running. I would stick to the newer verison

    Hi,

Just wondering, is it possible to purchase these shoes? Are they available for purchase? I really like the NikeFree 3.0 (in the purple, with orange outline) so pretty!

I live internationally, is there any site that this shoe may be purchased from?
Thanks so much, I am really needing another pair of good quality shoes, as I previously had the NikeFree 5.0

    Thanks :)

In one of the photos with 3 pairs of shoes, there are a pair that are black with electric green midsole rims and electric green swoosh. I really like that design. Is there any way I can get them without having to design them on NikeID?
